ZenPause is being built to help people develop a healthier, more intentional relationship with their devices.
Modern smartphones are powerful tools, but they are also designed to capture attention. Constant notifications, social feeds, and instant access to entertainment can make it difficult to stay focused on what truly matters. ZenPause aims to restore balance by giving users a simple and structured way to manage their screen time.
Our mission is to empower individuals to take control of their digital habits – not by forcing restrictions, but by enabling conscious, self-directed choice.
What We're Building
ZenPause is a screen time control app currently in development.
It is designed to help users reduce distractions, improve focus, and build sustainable habits by allowing them to intentionally limit access to selected apps and categories on their device.
Planned features include:
- The ability to block or restrict specific apps and categories
- Customizable focus sessions for work, study, or personal time
- Scheduled restrictions for routines such as sleep or deep work
- Flexible controls that adapt to individual goals and preferences
ZenPause is not about eliminating technology use – it is about using technology more intentionally.
How ZenPause Works (Planned Approach)
ZenPause plans to use Apple's Screen Time technologies, including the Family Controls framework and Managed Settings APIs, to enable app restriction functionality.
The intended approach is:
- Users will explicitly grant permission through Apple's system authorization interface
- Users will select apps or categories they want to restrict using Apple-provided tools
- ZenPause will apply restrictions through system-level controls managed by iOS
- Restrictions will be enforced by the operating system, not by monitoring or intercepting user activity
This means ZenPause is designed to work with Apple's privacy-focused architecture, not around it.
ZenPause does not aim to access or analyze what users do inside other apps. Its role is limited to enabling user-defined boundaries.
Built Around User Control
ZenPause is being designed as a self-directed tool, not a monitoring or surveillance system.
- Users will choose what to restrict
- Users will decide when restrictions apply
- Users will be able to modify or remove restrictions at any time
- All functionality depends on user consent
ZenPause does not aim to control devices without user knowledge or override system protections.

Privacy by Design
ZenPause is being built with privacy as a core principle, especially given the sensitive nature of screen time control.
We plan to follow a strict data minimization approach:
- Only essential data (such as selected apps and schedules) will be used
- No detailed app usage history will be collected
- No content from other apps will be accessed
- No tracking of user behavior across apps or services will take place
ZenPause aims to rely on Apple's secure frameworks to enforce restrictions without requiring access to personal activity data.
We do not plan to sell, rent, or use user data for advertising or profiling.
What ZenPause Is Not
ZenPause is not being built as:
- A parental control or child monitoring tool
- An employee surveillance or productivity tracking system
- A background activity monitoring or analytics platform
It is intended solely as a personal digital wellness tool for self-use.

ZenPause is being built in response to a growing need for better tools to manage digital distractions.
Many existing solutions are either too restrictive, too complex, or rely on monitoring user behavior. ZenPause aims to take a different approach – one that emphasizes simplicity, transparency, and user autonomy.
