ZenPause ("we", "our", or "us") is a screen time control app designed to help users reduce screen time use, manage distractions, and build healthier habits. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the ZenPause app and visit our website.

1. Overview of ZenPause App

ZenPause is a self-directed screen time control app. It allows users to voluntarily restrict access to selected apps and app categories on their own device (iPhone) using Apple's system-provided Screen Time technologies.

ZenPause does not:

  • monitor other individuals
  • provide parental surveillance
  • track user behavior across apps
  • collect behavioral analytics for advertising

2. Screen Time Control Functionality

ZenPause plans to use Apple's Family Controls framework and Managed Settings APIs to enable app restriction functionality.

How Restrictions Work:

User Authorization - The user explicitly grants permission through Apple's Screen Time authorization interface. ZenPause cannot access or enforce restrictions without this system-level consent.

App & Category Selection - Users select apps or categories (e.g., social media, games) via Apple's provided picker interface. ZenPause receives only opaque identifiers (tokens) representing these selections.

Enforcement via Managed Settings - ZenPause applies restrictions using Apple's Managed Settings APIs. The system enforces blocking at the OS level – ZenPause does not directly control or intercept app usage.

Scheduling & Sessions - ZenPause defines user-configured schedules or focus sessions. During active sessions, the system restricts access to selected apps.

Important Clarifications:

  • ZenPause does not bypass or override Apple's Screen Time protections
  • ZenPause does not access real-time usage data or activity logs
  • All enforcement is handled securely by iOS system frameworks

3. User Control & Permissions

ZenPause is fully user-controlled:

  • You must explicitly grant Screen Time permissions
  • You choose which apps/categories to restrict
  • You can modify or remove restrictions anytime
  • You can revoke permissions via Apple device settings

If permission is revoked, ZenPause immediately loses access to Screen Time controls.

Third-Party Frameworks:

ZenPause relies on Apple-provided frameworks, including:

  • Family Controls
  • Managed Settings

These frameworks are operated by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policies.

ZenPause does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

4. Data We Access (Strictly Limited)

To provide functionality, ZenPause may access:

  • App/category selection tokens (non-human-readable identifiers)
  • User-defined schedules and session configurations
  • Basic app state (e.g., whether a restriction session is active)

This data is used solely to configure and apply user-defined restrictions.

5. Data We Do NOT Access

ZenPause explicitly does not access, collect, or store:

  • App usage duration or history
  • Which apps are opened or when
  • Content viewed inside apps or websites
  • Messages, emails, contacts, photos, or files
  • Keystrokes or user input
  • Browsing activity outside ZenPause

ZenPause cannot see what you do inside other apps.

6. Data Storage & Processing

User preferences (e.g., selected apps, schedules) may be stored:

  • Locally on the device, and/or
  • Securely in backend systems (if syncing is enabled in the future)

We follow a data minimization approach:

  • Only essential data is stored
  • No unnecessary behavioral or tracking data is retained

7. Website Data Collection

This data is used for:
